The Innovation Crowd

The Innovation Crowd is a physical and virtual school (or club) where innovative start-up businesses/entrepreneurs can come together to receive training and mentoring from experts, collaborate with others, test their ideas and find opportunities for the commercialisation of their product/service. While the physical space will be located within the City of Casey, there is also potential for the program to engage with members online via a designated portal.

It is expected to launch on 1 July 2018.

ELIGIBILITY 

Eligibility is open to those who reside in the Casey Cardinia region (City of Casey and Shire of Cardinia) and have an innovative business idea and the drive to make it work, but minimal economic means to get started. Participants under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult/parent.

As a minimum the school/club will include the following elements that have been identified as key criteria for successful start-up environments:

  • Physical space to work and meet in (spaces available at Federation University and the Casey Cardinia Business Hub)
  • Collaboration opportunities     
  • Mentors   
  • Champions
  • Knowledge/training  
  • Access to funds/investors

It should also focus, but not exclusively, on the growth industries identified for the Casey Cardinia region, in particular:

Manufacturing Sector

  • Advanced manufacturing
  • Food product manufacturing
  • Machinery and equipment manufacturing


Professional and Business Services Sector

  • Population and Household Services Sector
  • Education and training
  • Health care and community services

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE START-UPS 

The City of Casey has the necessary elements to make this project possible and Federation University, Berwick Campus have committed to partner with the City of Casey to make this happen. The City of Casey is home to Federation University, Chisholm Tafe, and the future Casey Tech School.

The City of Casey has a connected and passionate business community who want to work with local institutions and council to make the region an innovation hub.
